AGICO Rail Clip

Rail clips, also known as elastic rail clips, are used in conjunction with railway sleepers to secure the rails to the underlayment. By bending and deforming, rail clips exert pressure on the rail, preventing longitudinal movement of the rail due to temperature changes or vibration. Then, the rail clip ensures the normal gauge, thereby ensuring the safety of the rail vehicle. The elastic structure of the rail clip can absorb the impact energy during train operation and reduce vibration. Rail clips are usually made of forged spring steel and are produced by hot forging. Forged rail clips are considered superior to other metal forming processes due to their uniform microstructure. The elastic rail clip works under repeated alternating stress and bears various actions such as bending, torsion, fatigue, and corrosion. When the vehicle passes, it also bears an extremely high instantaneous impact load.

Rail Clip Production Process

The rail clip production process is divided into nine steps: 

Raw material procurement: Rail clips are generally made of spring steel bars. Spring steel has excellent comprehensive properties such as mechanical properties, ballistic properties, fatigue properties, hardenability, physical and chemical properties, etc. The main raw materials of rail clip are 55Si7, 60Si7, 65Si7, 55SiCr7, 60Si2MnA, 60Si2CrA, 55Si2Mn, 38Si7, etc.

Cutting: According to the requirements of the product drawings, use professional cutting equipment to cut the spring steel strips into the required length. This process requires ensuring a smooth cross-section without burrs and that the length error is within the allowable range.

Heating: After shearing, spring steel should be heated to forging temperature (950-1000 degrees Celsius). The temperature is strictly controlled during the heating process to avoid decarburization due to overheating, which affects the performance and life of the finished product. After heating is completed, the decarburization layer depth needs to be tested.

Forming: When the spring steel bar is heated to the appropriate temperature, it will be transferred to the power press for hot forging. Form the material into the desired strip shape. At the same time, ensure product consistency.

Quenching: The formed rail clip is quickly sent to the quenching oil tank for quenching treatment. The quenching medium is quenching oil at about 70°C, and the whole process lasts about 12 minutes. Ensure rail clips have higher hardness and strength.

Tempering: After quenching, the rail clip is kept in a tempering furnace at 400-500℃ for 55-60 minutes. This process can give the rail clip the necessary impact resistance and elastic recovery capabilities.

Inspection: Each rail clip undergoes strict quality control before leaving the factory, such as fatigue test, hardness test, and load test. All inspections will be carried out according to the requirements of different customers.

Surface treatment: If the customer requires, surface treatment is a necessary step before packaging. There is a range of surface treatments to suit different applications, such as plain (oiled), black oxide, painted, or other methods as per customer requirements.

Packaging: There are many packaging methods suitable for rail clips, and woven bags are a common packaging method. Ensure that the product will not be damaged, rust-proof, and moisture-proof during transportation.
