Specifications of Square Head Bolts and Nuts:

Square head bolts and nuts are a common fastener combination in railway systems, typically used for track fastening and connection. The square head bolts have a square head and a threaded shank and are used with square head nuts. They can be customized to different square head bolt dimensions according to customer requirements, and the shank can be customized with full thread or partial thread. Square head bolts and nuts primarily function in railways to resist shear forces and prevent lateral movement of the tracks. The unique square head design provides four planes, offering a larger contact area with tools, and ensuring more even torque distribution. This reduces the likelihood of slipping and damage, making the installation and removal process simpler and quicker. The square head bolt dimensions available on the market are diverse, and AGICO, as a square head bolt manufacturer, can provide diameters ranging from 1/2 inch to 1-1/4 inches. They also offer square head adjusting bolts, thin head switch bolts, and square head switch bolts. The square head bolts and nuts surface is provided with hot-dip galvanized treatment, ensuring long-lasting performance even in harsh environments such as high temperatures, low temperatures, or humidity. This reduces maintenance frequency and extends service life. Due to their simple structure, ease of use, and reliable performance, square head bolts and nuts have become indispensable fasteners in the railway industry.

Square Head Bolts and Nuts Production Process

1.Material Selection

The materials for square head bolts and nuts are typically high-strength steels, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy steel. The choice of material depends on the usage environment of the bolts and the mechanical performance required by the customer. The steel is cut according to the dimensions of the square head bolts and nuts to facilitate the next step of production.

2. Forming

The cut steel is placed into a thread rolling machine for thread processing. The thread rolling machine forms the threads by plastically deforming the metal under high pressure without cutting the metal. This method can improve the durability and wear resistance of square head bolts and nuts, making the surface smoother.

3. Heat Treatment

The formed square head bolts and nuts are heated to a certain temperature and then rapidly cooled, a process known as quenching. At this stage, the square head bolts and nuts achieve a certain hardness but also become very brittle. The quenched square head bolts and nuts are then heated to a lower temperature and slowly cooled, which eliminates the brittleness.

4. Surface Treatment

To increase the corrosion resistance of square head bolts and nuts, a layer of zinc is formed on their surface through galvanizing. There are two methods of galvanizing: hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing. Other surface treatments can also be performed according to customer requirements, such as plain, blank, or Dacromet, all of which can form a protective layer on the surface of the square head bolts and nuts.

5. Quality Inspection

Perform mechanical performance tests on square head bolts and nuts, such as tensile strength testing and hardness testing. Use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and thread gauges to precisely measure the dimensions and threads of the bolts and nuts to ensure that the dimensions meet the specifications. Finally, inspect the product surface for cracks, uneven surface treatment, and other defects.
