Grooved Rail for Sale

Grooved rail is a steel rail designed specifically for urban rail transit. Unlike standard rails, it is a special rail with a continuous groove on its head. This groove accommodates the wheel rim, achieving a smooth integration of the track and road surface. This makes it easier for cars and pedestrians to pass through and effectively reduces noise and vibration. AGICO, as a professional grooved rail supplier, offers various models of grooved rail, including 60R2 (Ri60N), 60R1 (Ri60), 59R1 (Ri59), 57R1 (Ri60N), and 55R1 (Ri55NK). We also offer one-stop services including customized production, technical consultation, welding, global logistics, and distribution.

Types of Grooved Rail

grooved rail

There are many types of Grooved Rail. They have different designs and models to adapt to the needs of different urban rail systems. Ensure every customer can find the model that perfectly matches their project specifications. Our grooved rail has the Ri series and GP series. Including widely used mainstream models Ri60, Ri52, 41GPU, Ri59N, and 35GP. These models have differences in weight, cross-section, and performance. Whether you need a standard model or a specific size, we can offer professional advice and high-quality products.

Grooved Rail naming conventions vary by region and supplier. The specific model and parameters need to be confirmed based on the specific technical specifications of the project and the drawings provided by the supplier.

Advantages of Grooved Rail

Optimized design

Grooved rail design has a groove to accommodate the wheel rim. The entire track system can be completely embedded in the ground to achieve a smooth road surface. This design effectively eliminates road obstacles, facilitates the passage of cars, bicycles, and pedestrians, and improves the beauty of the city.

High security

When the train wheels run on the track, the wheel flanges are firmly restrained in the grooves. Even in sharp turns or complex intersections, the wheels can follow the intended path. Ensure the safe and stable operation of trains in the city.

Low noise

The track system can be fully embedded and fixed in the roadbed, reducing the vibration and shaking of the rail itself. At the same time, the close integration with the road surface material also absorbs some vibrations and reduces the noise and vibration generated when the train passes.

Strong durability

The Grooved rail is usually made of high-strength and high-wear-resistant special steel. Its robust structural design and material selection enable it to withstand enormous loads and wear. This strong durability reduces maintenance frequency and costs.

The Difference between Grooved Rail and Standard Steel Rail

grooved rail and standard steel rail

The grooved rail’s head is designed with a continuous groove, which is tailor-made for urban environments. The track can be completely flush with the road surface.
The rail head of the standard rail is a convex arc shape with an I-shaped cross-section and a simple structure. A separate, elevated track system is required.

Grooved rail uses embedded installation. It is fixed in the concrete monolithic roadbed, and the track surface is flush with the surrounding road. Effectively prevent wheels from derailing at turns and intersections.
Standard rails are usually laid on sleepers or track slabs, with the rail surface significantly above the ground. The correct position of the wheels on the track is ensured by the track gauge, switches, and rail fastening system.

Grooved rail is mainly used for urban trams, light rail, industrial, and port railways. These routes often need to share space with city roads, sidewalks, or public areas. Its flush design ensures the smooth passage of vehicles and pedestrians.
Standard rails are widely used in trunk railways, high-speed railways, subways, and other places where independent and closed tracks are required. These lines have higher requirements for train speed and load.

The key point of Grooved Rail maintenance is to clean the wheel flange groove to prevent debris, ice, and snow from blocking and affecting the guiding function.
The maintenance of standard rails focuses on the stability of the track bed, and regular tamping and ballast cleaning are required to maintain the track geometry.

Grooved Rail Welding

flash welding

Flash welding

Flash welding is currently the most ideal and commonly used welding method for Grooved Rail. The current generates resistance heat, forming molten metal droplets. After reaching the predetermined temperature, a huge forging pressure is applied instantly. The molten metal is squeezed out, and metal bonding is achieved to fuse the two rail sections into one. Flash welding has high weld strength and good smoothness, but the equipment is expensive and has high requirements for operators.

Thermite welding

Thermite welding is a common method of on-site welding. It uses a mixture of metallic aluminum powder and iron oxide powder to produce high-temperature molten iron by chemical reaction, which is then injected into the pre-installed sand mold cavity. The rail ends are melted and cooled to form a weld. This welding method is light, fast, and flexible, but the strength is lower than flash welding.

Related Accessories

Grooved Rail is most commonly used in trams and light rail systems. It is also widely used in railway and road level crossings, ports, and industrial areas. And other areas that require seamless integration of rail facilities and ground transportation. It is a key technology to achieve traffic integration and urban beauty.
